Our Team

Meet Our California-Licensed Experts

Every ESA or PSD letter issued through PawFlicker comes from a mental health professional actively licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences — never a quiz, never an out-of-state provider. Here’s who evaluates and supports our clients.

Why It Matters

Licensed Professionals, Not a Questionnaire

California’s AB 468 law requires that ESA and PSD letters come from a licensed healthcare provider who has completed a genuine clinical relationship with the client — not an anonymous online form. That’s the entire reason PawFlicker exists: to connect Californians with real, verifiable clinicians who take that requirement seriously.

Every therapist on this page holds an active California license (LMFT, LCSW, AMFT, or ATR), verifiable through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences license lookup. Working with a licensed professional isn’t just a legal formality — it’s what makes your letter defensible if a landlord, airline, or property manager ever questions it.

The Process

How Our Experts Evaluate Clients

A confidential, clinical process built around your actual needs — not a shortcut.

01

Initial Eligibility Check

A short set of questions helps confirm you’re a fit for the process before anything clinical begins.

02

Matched with a Licensed Therapist

You’re connected with a California-licensed clinician whose background fits your situation.

03

Confidential Clinical Evaluation

Your therapist conducts a real evaluation of your emotional or mental health needs — private and judgment-free.

04

The Required Relationship Period

California law requires a genuine 30-day clinical relationship before a letter can be issued. Your therapist stays available throughout.

05

Your Signed, Compliant Letter

Once the clinical relationship is complete, your therapist issues a signed letter on official letterhead, meeting AB 468 requirements.

Know the Difference

ESA vs. PSD Evaluations

Emotional Support Animal (ESA)

An ESA letter confirms you have a qualifying emotional or mental health need, and that your animal provides comfort as part of managing it. ESA letters primarily support housing accommodation — they don’t require the animal to have specific task training.

Psychiatric Service Dog (PSD)

A PSD letter applies when a dog is trained to perform specific tasks related to a psychiatric condition. PSD documentation can support both housing and, in some cases, travel, depending on the animal’s training and the client’s documented needs.

Our therapists determine which evaluation fits your situation during your initial consultation — you don’t need to know the difference going in.

California Only

Built for California, Not the Whole Country

PawFlicker serves California residents exclusively. Every therapist on this page is licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and every letter we issue is built around California’s specific requirements — including AB 468’s 30-day clinical relationship rule. We don’t operate a generic, nationwide template stretched to cover every state’s different laws. If you’re not a California resident, we’re not the right fit, and we’ll tell you that directly during your eligibility check.

You’re matched based on your needs and location, though you’re welcome to let us know if a specific therapist’s background feels like a strong fit during your initial consultation.

Yes. Your evaluation and any personal information shared with your therapist are kept confidential and protected, and are never shared with your landlord or anyone else without your consent.

No. Your letter confirms that you have a qualifying condition without stating the specific diagnosis. Landlords are not legally entitled to ask for that level of detail.

California’s AB 468 requires a genuine 30-day clinical relationship between you and your provider before an ESA or PSD letter can be issued. This is what makes the letter legitimate rather than an instant, unverified approval.

Your therapist will talk with you about your emotional or mental health needs, how your animal supports you, and your relevant history — similar to an intake session with any licensed therapist.

Our clinicians primarily conduct evaluations through secure telehealth sessions, making the process accessible no matter where you are in California.

Our team includes Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), Associate Marriage & Family Therapists practicing under supervision (AMFT), and Registered Art Therapists (ATR).
